Cables for MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) are usually 5 pin din type. The 5 pin MIDI din connector plug is male at both cable ends. This is used to interconnect or patch together MIDI instruments or audio devices. MIDI cables also connect and patch together computers, PC sound cards or any other MIDI compatible device with a MIDI input socket.
MIDI data transmission via 5 pin din connector plugs is the most common way to connect MIDI devices, but MIDI data transmission is also possible using computer connector plugs like 9 pin D-Sub, 8 pin DIN and USB. It is important to establish what MIDI input and output sockets and connectros are on the MIDI devices that you want to patch together.
